Interpretation
A play is (nominally) an allegory on the power of totalitariansim and a struggle to oppose it. A protagonist is population ruled by dictators (a director & his aide). By "tweak[ing] him until his clothing and posture project the required image of pitiful dejectedness"[http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0243166/], it exert their control on top a silenced figure. Nonetheless, at a prevent of a play, a protagonist rebels by refer into a audience, killing the canned hand clapping. By defying a director, a protagonist (& by extension "the people") terminates his despotism.

These are interesting to note that, fallowing a fall of the communist government in Czechoslovakia, crowds famously chanted "Godot has arrived!" as a rallying cry, in information to Beckett's best known play. Havel himself would late produce allusions to the importance of Beckett's act inside terms of his struggle, & his function: "In a word, I thought that time was mine. I had made a serious mistake. The world, being and history are governed by their own time, on which we can intervene creatively but which no one can ever dominate."

Beckett on Film
The filmed version of Catastrophe was directed by David Mamet for the Beckett on Film project.
